All Progressives Congress Political Party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is a major political party in Nigeria, formed in February 2013 as a result of a merger of Nigeria's four largest opposition parties - the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC),…   the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). This merger was a strategic move to create a stronger force capable of challenging the then-dominant People's Democratic Party (PDP), which had been in power since the end of military rule in 1999. The APC positioned itself as a beacon of change, advocating for a new direction in Nigerian politics.<br /><br />The APC's values and ideology are centered around promoting a progressive Nigeria through good governance, social justice, and economic development. The party espouses a belief in democracy as the best form of government and emphasizes the importance of maintaining the rule of law, fighting corruption, and ensuring the rights and freedoms of individuals. It advocates for policies aimed at improving the welfare of the Nigerian people, including education reform, healthcare improvement, and job creation through the diversification of the economy away from its heavy reliance on oil.<br /><br />Economically, the APC supports free-market policies with a role for government in regulating and guiding the economy to ensure sustainable growth and development. It also places a strong emphasis on national security, aiming to address the challenges posed by terrorism, insurgency, and communal violence that have affected various parts of the country.<br /><br />Since coming to power in 2015, with the election of Muhammadu Buhari as President, the APC has sought to implement its agenda of change, though it has faced significant challenges, including economic recession, security issues, and internal party conflicts.
